Here we will discuss and debunk the popular horror stories and myths, as well as the “news” sucked from the finger of Thai travel companies that tour guide guides (called hotel guides) like to tell guests of the Kingdom.
If you have your own story, lay out - consider!

Well, let's start with the number one tale!

Insurance is valid only when traveling with a tour operator. When buying excursions from local travel agencies insurance is not valid.

In fact, insurance is issued to the tourist along with the acquisition of a tour package. And the effect of this insurance applies to the entire country of residence, is controlled by the insurance company. And she does not care at all with which company and where you went. Do not believe? So dial the insurance company's hotline number and ask about it!
Of course, injuries received as a result of some kind of extreme sports may not be covered specifically by your travel insurance and it does not depend on where the excursion was purchased. But extreme entertainment is held in Thailand only by licensed companies and additional insurance is included in the cost of services. For those who love extreme - you can still get a special "sports" insurance with a maximum insurance amount at home. It is not worth the transcendental money.

Let's go further.

Sightseeing tour. Or "City Tour", as it is modernly called. And you know - only cheese is free ... it’s understandable where, so be sure the divorce continues
You will be taken to the observation platform, where you can admire the views of Pattaya. On this, strictly speaking, the review of Pattaya is completed. Further, as a rule, there is a snake farm, where everyone is simply obliged to try snake blood for 1000 baht or, in extreme cases, a snake soup, toasted snake for 500 baht from each. There you can also be photographed with a reptile. After that, according to the program - the biggest attraction of Pattaya, a jewelry factory. Where you can buy "cheap" products. But calling things by their proper names is not a factory, but a shop. Therefore, do not even expect to see low prices there!
There are several variations of the excursion, but in any case there is little free, and even less. If you still have a desire to go on such a program, then it is better to do it at the end of the holiday, when it is already clear what is and how much is bred, and the amount of money will significantly decrease by the end of the holiday. And the desire to pull them to some trinkets will be less.

Oh yes, of course!

They have bad guides

However, variations are possible. Starting from "there will be no Russian guide, but there will be a Russian-speaking Thai" and ending with "there will be a guide-addict or drunkard."
A very common situation is when guides, who were formerly employees of a tour operator, work in local travel agencies. But something did not work out, and they went to work in a Thai company. And how does it turn out when they worked for a tour operator - they were good and professional in their field, but when they went to work for another company - they became unprofessional and bad

They have an incomplete program

Of course, the Alcazar Show and the Colosseum are different, the Bayok Sky Sky skyscraper in Bangkok or the Nong Nooch Tropical Garden, the Ramayana Water Park was built specifically for tour operators! It may seem ridiculous, but more recently this has worked in hotels in Pattaya ... which told guests about the tropical garden Nong Nooch, which was specially put at the disposal of one of the tour operators! Yes!
For example, if you purchase a tour of the Kwai River at a local agency, the buses will take the same route. Stops will be in the same places, food and overnight will be the same with those who purchased this program from the hotel guide. This is all told so that you have a feeling of uncertainty and fear, that you are dependent on hotel guides and, accordingly, bring income to the tour operator. And it’s not right to say that tour operators are guaranteed good guides. Very often they are brought in as “green” ones, for example, after working in Turkey, and hastily trained in local peculiarities. But you must admit, the country and life cannot be learned from books and films. It is necessary to live in the country for at least half a year in order to have an idea about it and give distinct and not invented answers on the go. If desired, they will become good employees, but only through the 2-3 season. And it happened that the guide told more about Turkey or something else, but not about Thailand.

I remembered here. For two or three seasons in a row, in some Pattaya hotels in the Jomtien district, our guests were treated by some kind of hooch who persuaded them to not tell anyone the number of the room in the hotel where they live! With a hint, this is what: "You will be robbed while you are on a tour."
I will not hide - cases of theft in some hotels in Pattaya have been noted and occasionally occur again. But first, because the hotel staff is stealing, who will know what time you are not in the room, whether you want it or not. A stranger will not be able to penetrate the hotel room - this is, after all, a reputation, there are security guards and video cameras. Secondly, at least read reviews about the hotel, which was chosen when buying a trip. And thirdly, to leave something valuable unattended and not locked up (in a safe) is rash in any situation.
And this nonsense was told to tourists for this reason. When you buy a tour at a local travel agency, we take some of the information we need. To make it clear - from which hotel to pick you up, how to contact you and in which room to look for if you ... well, it happens ... you overslept the time of gathering for the excursion and your phone is turned off. So, keep to the trick of a hotel guide and hide the room number at least recklessly, this is done only as an attempt to complicate the work of local travel agencies and it is possible to provoke a mistake (and behind it are bad reviews).

Fairy tales about bad transport. Old, without air conditioning, with an inexperienced driver, etc.

For example, our travel company uses quite new minibuses on 13 seats, naturally air-conditioned and needless to say - with experienced drivers (and what other they can be, if they have access to driving public transport). And on our author's excursions we are given clients including tour operators. And we carry all together, the same transport, on the same route, accompanied by the same guides. Because?
Disputes and discussions about what kind of transport is better to go on a tour - a minibus or a large bus will never subside. Everyone has their pros and cons, but buying a tour from a tour operator does not guarantee that you will be lucky on what you prefer. For example, in low season it is almost guaranteed to be a small transport. Due to the insufficient number of guests in order to go on a big bus. Now in general, all in Pattaya prefer minibuses. In view of the speed of collection and distribution of hotels, maneuverability in traffic. But the type of transport does not depend on the place of purchase of the excursion.
There are such tourist destinations (for example, trips from Pattaya to Cambodia), the organizers of which can be counted on fingers. And having bought such a tour from a hotel guide, you will travel by one transport with those who purchased from local companies. Only for other, often half the money. This will happen because the tour operator simply will not have an alternative in choosing the performer.

Oh, how can you not remember this!

They have no license, they work illegally!

In part - it can be believable. It's no secret that foreign staff in Thai travel companies often work illegally. Without proper visa clearance and work permit. The same often applies to hotel guides and other foreigners working for a tour operator (you might think, all of them are properly decorated  ). But here work in the Thai tourist business without a license is severely punished, among other things.
Any tour organizer has several partners, for example:
  • Transport

  • Visa agencies, for example, at the VIP passage through the border with Cambodia

  • Hotels when organizing tours for several days

For work with partners, contracts are concluded between legal entities, with indication of license numbers, office addresses, bank details, etc. And no one will work with an unregistered company and organize more or less complex programs such a company cannot.
Technically, an unregistered company will be able to organize simple day tours. Only this will be available at high prices - a company with a license at the conclusion of the contract receives a low tour cost due to discounts on entrance tickets, fees, etc. Since price is a decisive factor, an unregistered company will not be able to compete in the market.
Conclusion: any tour organizer has a license. And if there is a guide who will begin to state the opposite - ask him to present the business visa in the passport and work permit himself. But according to the law, he must have them always with him. With a probability of 50 percent, this guide is in the country on a tourist (even more often - on a student) visa and works illegally. Without paying any taxes to the treasury.

If you buy trips not from us, you will certainly be deceived!

Sure to! Local companies only think about how to hide with a few thousand baht, despite many years of experience and a hard-earned reputation!
The tourist market in Thailand is quite competitive, so you can have a decent income only by providing top quality services, without tearing up prices and creating a new product. And by deceiving your customers and winning a few dollars, you can lose your reputation for a long time and not win anything. Moreover, each more or less serious organizer has a lot of feedback. Including in independent sources (for example, in Google). So study the reviews and choose - who should trust your vacation. I assure you that you will find a lot of negative information about tour operators and their employees - hotel guides.
If someone still thinks that payment is made just like that, without supporting documents, this is a profound mistake. For each fact of payment in the office, an appropriate document is issued - a tourist voucher. When paying online on the site - you can print a check or make a screenshot of it, the order form itself can also be printed. All these documents are legally binding.

Local company tours include many shops.

To be honest - shops in the program of excursions can be included at all. Most often it is a frank shopping (pharmacies, souvenirs, jewelry centers or latex), or hidden (a snake farm, a tea shop, a spice factory, etc., similar to a landmark in the program, but implying some kind of "rollback" of the travel company).
What is it done for? To be able to set the selling price lower, but get a percentage of the stores and still get a plus. That is, yes, it is a tribute to excessively bloated competition and the actual absence of legislative regulation of the minimum prices for travel services. In other words - the nineteenth century (because it has long been beaten and tired of everyone) and a painful thorn in the work of travel company managers.
And you seriously believe that tour operators will abandon this item of passive income? Yes, why would it! Here they have just (working not by quality, but by quantity) shopping on excursions just flourishes with terry color! They do not care what kind of impressions and feedback you will have - tomorrow hundreds and thousands of new guests will arrive.

Therefore - when planning your vacation, ask the travel company manager if any shopping is included in the program you are interested in. If the staff of the company is more or less sane, you will be honestly informed. What they say so and so, in the program of the tour included certain races to the shops.
And there are such excursions that simply cannot be without shopping. For example, everyone knows the well-known excursion from Pattaya to the River Kwai, a popular one almost since the beginning of a visit to Thailand by Russian tourists. Stopping there in stores is an integral part of the journey. And even in the most expensive variants of the Kwai tour, such "sights" as the Thai medicine pharmacy and the tea shop are necessarily present. Of course, managers from commercial ingenuity may call them differently (the house of a Thai doctor, tea ceremony, etc.), but still remember - they are in the program.

Choose our exclusive excursions! Let them be a little more expensive, but they are guaranteed to be deprived of all unnecessary races! All sights only wisely and to the point. And if you suddenly need to visit some of the stores in Pattaya - we will organize it absolutely free, at a convenient time for you.

The tale of the hotel guide about breakfast (lunchbox, or packed lunch)

The hotel guide tells that supposedly if you don’t buy excursions from him you won’t be able to get your breakfast (lunchbox) for the excursion. But of course, this is nonsense!
First, the voucher purchased at the hotel, and not to visit the guide. Secondly, you are required to issue a breakfast if the breakfast option is included in the price. Regardless of who and where you are going, where you will eat your breakfast and where you bought excursions. According to the rules of any hotel, every guest has the right to stay for breakfast at least for the entire period of rest and to constantly order it with lunchbox. Well, maybe in a disco a person walks till morning and he has no strength to get up for breakfast!
But of course, so that the dry ration should be issued - it must be ordered in advance, from the evening at the reception. And in the morning before the excursion pick up (most often it is necessary for early departures to Cambodia, to Kwai, Amazing Thailand, etc.) - this is a legal right paid by you.
If someone is really faced with the facts of refusal to issue a lunchbox for reasons related to the actions of tour operators - this must be dealt with. For example, to reflect in their reviews about the rest, about the impressions of a particular hotel.

If you do not buy a tour now, then in the future there will be no places!

Well, have you ever encountered the advertising flow of many sellers? "Only today! Only now!" Frankly, we also go to this measure. For example - when you need to urgently form a group for some excursion. The work of the hotel guide is not much different in this sense - he often uses this technique to intimidate tourists and in attempts to reduce their time to think, to make the right decision. So that the guests could take a tour from the tour operator right away and could not change their mind. But you still have to take into account the following: in case you change your mind, the tour operator will not return money if you wish to cancel the tour, unless upon presentation of a medical certificate of health.
In fact, there are plenty of places on the excursion on any day of departure indicated in the price list. In addition, there has not been a single exclusive, unmatched offer from tour operators. Even if you are tempted by something, you can always purchase a similar service from a local travel agency. At a better price, besides.

They also say that registration is needed and supposedly only a hotel guide can do it. And if you do not register, they will be fined at the airport at the exit.
